Practicing a Community of Consent and Connection

You're invited to make a difference in young people's lives and in your community! Come join us for an evening community event: Stronger Together!

It is time we gather to remember the power we all hold individually and collectively as a resilient community.  Cleveland’s Building Consent Culture class and the Healthy Masculinity Club invite you, your circle of friends, family, and colleagues to please join us for Part 2 of our spring community event: Stronger Together.

  • Letting Our Values Guide How We Work -- With national-level policy changes throwing much violence prevention work into uncertainty, now is the time to examine our local-level policy and practice to ensure that it reflects and promotes our values.  This open ended discussion will invite participants to explore how policy impacts our community and how we can impact policy.Description text goes here

  • An interactive workshop that explores how systems involvement, bystander intervention, friendship, and more can impact survivors of teen dating violence. In this workshop we will view a compilation of clips of a romantic relationship from the TV show Sex Education. In the clip there is an expression of physical violence (a wrist grab) where we will pause and explore possible outcomes through an interactive booklet. After spending some time exploring possible outcomes we will come back together to see what happens in the show and discuss.

  • Digital devices and social media have the ability to both enhance and undermine healthy relationships and community.

In this realistic, supportive, and practical talk, you'll come away with more clarity and unique perspectives that leave you feeling less confused and overwhelmed as you help your teen navigate their digital world.

    Yshai Boussi - Classroom 109

  • In this interactive student and faculty co-led workshop, participants will discover their own practice and learn new methods for meaningfully discussing issues of oppression like racism, heterosexism, sexism, ableism and more with people in our school, work and family communities.

  • This conversation is about safety, power, and control. Parents often worry about teen dating violence—but how might those very dynamics be reinforced at home. Join us to explore!!!

  • SAFER club will be discussing our installation, “Stories of Consent.” This installation will feature both negative and positive reflections on community members’ experiences with consent. The intention is to create a powerful message that captures the immense impact of unconsented acts, while also highlighting ways to foster positivity in relationships.

We believe this installation will raise awareness about sexual harassment and assault by presenting the truth in a tangible way, within a space constantly filled with students. This installation serves as a reminder of the realities many face, sparking reflection and discussion. The session will explain the project in detail and provide attendees with the opportunity to write down their own stories. These personal accounts will be included anonymously in the installation at a later date.

  • Our workshop will start conversations around recreational drug use, and why young people should wait until they’re 21 or older before engaging in. While recognizing that doesn’t always happen in our culture. We’ll talk about why there is no way to use drugs safely, and introduce harm reduction tools like fentanyl test strips and Narcan.

During this workshop, we’ll talk about:
Where engaging in these activities can intersect with sex, boundaries, and consent.

Start conversations and hold space for ideas on how young people can keep themselves and others safe and empowered to have and enforce boundaries while practicing consent.

We'll provide a demonstration of how to use fentanyl test strips and hand them out for folks to have along with Narcan and condoms.

Educate folks about Narcan, what it is, how to administer it, and how it can save lives.

Brenda and Marley - Classroom 125

    • Our workshop will provide a space for parents, and other supportive adults, to discuss how best to support young people as they navigate sex, consent, and substance use

    • We’ll acknowledge how each of these topics, separately, often induce discomfort and uncertainty in our culture; also, we’ll touch on the many power dynamics that impact young people’s lives

    • Through small group as well as large group discussions, we’ll address some of the most common concerns around these topics

    •  We’ll provide concrete resources, such as fentanyl strips and narcan, as well as local agencies, websites, and books around these issues

Nick and Rachel - Classroom 127

  • There is an abyss between “boys and girls” that denies us our shared humanity. We will discuss the nature of this divide, how it impacts all of us daily, and what we all can do to build the bridge. Our future depends on it.

Phia Ruiz, Delila Wagner, Quincy Whiteman CARE - Classroom 110

  • Growing up as male, you can’t escape the gravity of the manosphere.  Having good parents and great role models isn’t enough to counter the algorithms that pull young men into misogynistic mindsets.  In this workshop we will discuss practical and real ways parents and young people can address the impact of the manosphere on healthy relationships, healthy male identity.
